"The Langa, My Love project takes its name from a poem by Fatima Dike, a renowned playwright and poet from Langa township in Cape Town. As the first township you approach when leaving the central business district, Langa has a rich cultural history and this year, the township celebrates its centennial. To mark this occasion, I've decided to delve into my Langa, My Love archive, sharing information about some of the images I have made over the years.
This is image number two from the archive, speaks to the Netball community from Langa and importantly how, where, who and what of the image is shared on the video.
"As someone who is passionate about Langa's culture and history, I have had the pleasure of chatting with @kanu_ntshoko for quite some time. Recently, we had the opportunity to meet up and visit his uncle's spot in Jungle Walk, Langa. Bra' Simphiwe Matole, one of the founding members of Amampondo, welcomed us there.Established in Langa, Cape Town in 1979 by Simphiwe Matole, Nkululeko, and others, Amampondo is a South African percussion ensemble. The name "Amampondo" means "people of Mpondo" or "Pondoland", which is a kingdom in the Eastern Cape where most of the band's members grew up. National Geographic has recognized them as "one of the most interesting and experimental groups in South Africa"."
