The 8th of May will mark the 6th General Elections for South Africa since the end of apartheid. Citizens will be voting for a new National Assembly and provincial legislatures in each province. According to the Electoral Commission of South Africa, a record number of 48 parties have registered candidates for the elections.On the occasion of Human Rights Day South African President Cyril Ramaphosa’s keynote address touched on some human rights issues the country is facing. The president emphasised “ Discrimination on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation or disability is forbidden by the laws of the country.” These  images highlight some of the eminent socio-political issues of this year's elections.
